I was amazed how many series she has appeared in over the years, even Coro St back in the '70's. Although not listed in IMDB I liked her recent appearance in Little Britain (where a character claimed to know her until they met)

This was one of the best shows on the air. I always enjoyed their humor.

Such a good show. Grace & Favour (titled "Are You Being Served? Again!") was also aired on public television here, but it wasn't quite as good in my opinion.

Robin: I liked her Little Britain appearance and she was a good sport to be killed off! It seems she was always game for a laugh.
Timothy and Jak: I enjoyed it, too, though when the original cast began changing, the scripts weren’t as good. Having said that, my favourite episode was the last-season ‘The Hold-up’. I wished Grace & Favour ran for one more year: they planned to marry Mr Humphries off and his mother was going to come and stop the wedding.
they planned to marry Mr Humphries off

Wait a tic while I dial my brain back to the '80s-- I'm assuming a woman, because marrying him to a man would have been too much for TV then? The character was so drenched in camp there had to have been some sly way to explain it.
I think they planned to marry him off to the farmer’s daughter, Mavis, so you are correct: it was to a woman.

You are sooo bad.

This is one of the British comedies that I ran across late in life and can't understand how I missed it. I hated it the first couple of times I watched, but then found myself tuning in late at night.

Another series I've recently become fond of is the one with the woman vicar, the daffy blonde girl, the daffy guy, and a bunch of daffy parishioners. The "knock, knock" jokes at the end are priceless!

Thanks, M.! I can’t remember when I first watched Are You Being Served?; it’s one of those series that has been present most of my life in New Zealand. I still have some episodes on VHS cassette.
The series you mention is The Vicar of Dibley, which I quite enjoy, too, though not as much as Are You Being Served?. Trivium: Kirstie Alley starred in the lead role in a US version which never made it past the pilot. Somehow I could see Kirstie in the role, because she has a biting sort of humour that Dawn French has, just in an American way.

Thanks for the trivia; I didn't know that. You're right, she would have done a good job in that role. Unfortunately, she has become a late night joke with her weight problems/publicity, but she's a great comic actress, and I really wish one day she would have a big "comeback", as they say.

It is sad, because she is a very good actress. I remember her dramatic role in Star Trek. Some of the weight gags she brought on herself, in my view, by agreeing to shows that poked fun at her weight or even Jenny Craig commercials that did the same.
